Effects of light stress on the expression of early light‐inducible proteins in barley

Abstract: Treatment of six-day-old barley leaves with white light of high intensity, 250-2000 W/m2, leads to a linear increase in the steady-state concentrations of early light-inducible protein (ELIP) mRNA followed by an accumulation of the protein. Accumulation of ELIP mRNA, under light stress, is highest in the basal third of the leaf and declines to approximately 50% of this level in the apical segment. The amount of the accumulated protein decreases more steeply towards the tip than would be expected from mRNA leve… Show more

“…Furthermore, the accumulation of Sep and Elip transcripts was light intensity dependent between 100 and 2,000 mol m Ϫ2 s Ϫ1 (not shown). These results are in agreement with the previously published results for pea or barley Elips (8,42).…”

“…similar experiment when 6-d-old green barley plants were treated with a combination of high light and ABA, Elip level increased in comparison with lighttreated control. However, no effect was observed with just ABA (Potter and Kloppstech, 1993). This environmental induction of Elip1 transcription implicates additional functions that are controlled by signal transduction pathways other than those described here.…”
