Effects of juniper essential oil on growth performance, some rumen protozoa, rumen fermentation and antioxidant blood enzyme parameters of growing Saanen kids

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of juniper essential oil on the growth performance, rumen fermentation parameters, rumen protozoa population, blood antioxidant enzyme parameters and faecal content in growing Saanen kids. Thirty-six male Saanen kids (36 ± 14 days of age) were used in the study. Each group consisted of 9 kids. The control group (G1) was fed with a diet that consisted of the above concentrated feed and oat hay, whereas the experimental groups consumed the same diet but with the concentra… Show more

“…100 No. 7, 2017 (Yesilbag et al, 2016), and a blend of herb powders (Woodfordia fruticosa, Solanum nigrum, and Trigonella foenum-graecum) containing hydrolysable tannins, steroidal saponins, and glycoalkaloids increased the activity of GSH peroxidase, CAT, and glutathione-S-transferase in the blood of goats (Choubey et al, 2016). In dairy cows, the effects of PN on oxidative stress are not consistent, and data are limited.…”

“…A positive independent influence of probiotics on serum triglyceride concentration and liver mass has been reported, exerting a favorable and dose‐dependent effect on liver function and lipid profile in the rat model and possibly also have a favorable influence on cardiovascular impairment . Yesilbag et al demonstrated that juniper essential oil supplements had a significant impact on children's antioxidant blood parameters. Antioxidant parameters were more effective than performance parameters and could be used as natural antioxidant products.…”
