Effects ofHimatanthus lancifoliuson Human Leukocyte Chemotaxis and their Adhesion to Integrins

Abstract: The aim of this work was to investigate the anti-inflammatory activities of the uleine-rich fraction extracted from the barks of Himatanthus lancifolius (Muell. Arg.) Woodson (Apocynaceae). To achieve this, we focused on its in vitro effects on some steps of the inflammatory response using peripheral human leukocytes. The results presented herein show that the uleine-rich fraction significantly inhibits the migration of casein-induced granulocytes and their adhesion to fibronectin and vitronectin, along with m… Show more

“…[27][28][29][30] Furthermore, this alkaloid and its related derivatives were also studied for their anticancer properties, 30 and, more recently, alkaloids-enriched fractions were also studied for their in vitro anti-inflammatory properties. 31 It was reported recently that uleine has significant AChE-I activity with an IC 50 of 0.45 µM. 26 For this reason, uleine is considered as a new possible candidate for the future development of new anti-AD drugs, but no reports about safety, efficacy, and human studies specific to cognition have been reported to date.…”

“…Yet, PP80 given alone to them in addition to tri-therapy improved considerably their health. An explanation for this remarkable effect may be found in the fact that uleine also interferes with the inflammatory response (Nardin et al, 2008) and regulates the immune system (Nardin et al, 2010). The substance possesses thus properties shared by the two other regimen proposed.…”
