Effects of hybrid nucleating agents on glass fiber‐reinforced polyethylene terephthalate/polybutylene terephthalate alloy crystallization

Abstract: In this article, the Surlyn V R 8920 and AX 8900 were mixed as hybrid nucleating agents for glass fiber (GF)reinforced polyethylene terephthalate (PET)/polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) alloy. The crystallization behaviors on GF-reinforced PET/PBT alloy with compound nucleating agents of Surlyn V R 8920 and AX 8900 were studied by differential scanning calorimeter. The Jeziorny method, Mo method, and Kissinger method were used for studying the non-isothermal crystallization process of the composite alloys. Whil… Show more

“…An improvement in the stability during processing and, hence, in many other properties, may be achieved by blending PET with other polymers or copolymers , forming polymer blends. The addition of chemically active copolymers to PET is an effective way of modifying its properties and thus, obtaining desirable results.…”

“…10 The commonly used nucleating methods for enhancing the crystallization properties include inorganic nucleating agent, [11][12][13][14][15] organic nucleating agent 16,17 and polymer nucleating agent. [18][19][20] Inorganic nucleating agents (silica, mica, zinc oxide, carbon nanotubes, etc.) are widely used in PET nucleation modification due to excellent nucleation ability.…”

“…The peaks of crystallization temperature ( T p ) moved to low temperature with the cooling rate increasing, crystallization rate of PBT/PET blends increased with the lower GF contents while it was baffled by higher GF contents. Fu et al studied the crystallization behaviors of GF‐reinforced PET/PBT alloy with compound nucleating agents of Surlyn 8920 and AX 8900. They demonstrated the hybrid nucleating agents of Surlyn 8920 and AX 8900 not only can accelerate crystal growth but also can significantly reduce the energy barrier, and it had a good effect on the nucleation in the alloy.…”
