Effects of high pressure on the lattice structure and electrical transport properties of BiOI

Abstract: The significant conductivity enhancement of semiconductor BiOI up to 19.2 GPa has provided an example of the directed regulation of the electrical properties of BiOX layered materials using controllable pressure.

“…The optimized lattice constants for orthorhombic Bi 2 WO 6 unit cell with a space group P2 1 ab [54] are a = 5.46 Å, b = 5.47 Å, c = 16.57 Å; those of BiOI unit cell with a PbFCl-type tetragonal crystal structure in a P4/nmms space group are a = b = 3.99 Å, c = 9.08 Å. In table 1, it can be seen that the theoretical results are in good agreement with the corresponding experimental data [54,55]. Then, the crystal facets with different terminations are cleaved from the optimized unit cells to build the BiOI/Bi 2 WO 6 heterostructures.…”

“…It is difficult to explain these discrepancies, although it is known that the sample morphology (powder, dense sample, porous electrodes (where the gas diffusion can affect the mass transport) as well as the employed method (Electrical conductivity relaxation (ECR), oxygen isotopic exchange (OIE), electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS)) can give quite different results. [31]…”
