Effects of High Plasticity and Expansive Clay Stabilization with Lime on UCS Testing in Several Conditions

Abstract: Clay is a cohesive and very soft soil if it has high water content. To overcome this problem, clay soils with high plasticity need to be stabilized. The method of soil stabilization with lime is an alternative effort to improve soil that does not meet the standards. Lime reacts with groundwater so that it changes the property of the soil, reducing the stickiness and softness of the soil. Lime also functions to solidify (stabilize) and stabilize (stabilize) soil in the form of fine powder consisting of metals a… Show more

“…According to the analysis in Figure 7, it can be seen that the phase composition containing Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2, and C mainly consisted of kaolinite, mica, carbon, and other substances. These substances are relatively easier to break due to their low strength [38][39][40]; thus, they were broken and enriched in the fine-grained products. Similarly, Figure 10b shows the enrichment of elements in the fine-grained gangue, and the changing trend of the enrichment ratio (θ) of each component in the fine-grained gangue is opposite to that in the coarse-grained gangue.…”

“…Improvement of expansive clay soil can be done by adding lime [4]. Utilizing lime with percentages of 6%, 8%, 9%, 10% as a substitute for cement in stabilizing expansive clay soils with a long treatment time for soil bearing strength and development [5]. With a curing duration of 7 days, 14 days, and 28 days, adding 6% rice husk ash and 4% cement [6].…”
