Effects of genuine dimension-six Higgs operators

Abstract: We systematically discuss the consequences of genuine dimension-six Higgs operators. These operators are not subject to stringent constraints from electroweak precision data. However, they can modify the couplings of the Higgs boson to electroweak gauge bosons and, in particular, the Higgs self-interactions. We study the sensitivity to which those couplings can be probed at future e + e − linear colliders in the sub-TeV and in the multi-TeV range. We find that for √ s = 500 GeV with a luminosity of 1 ab −1 the… Show more

“…This coupling is only accessible in double Higgs production [10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17][18]. One thus needs to consider the usual channels in which the Higgs boson is produced singly [19][20][21][22], but allows for the state to be off mass-shell and to split up into two real Higgs bosons.…”

“…The measurement of the trilinear Higgs coupling is therefore an extremely challenging task and very high collider luminosities as well as high energies are required. We should note that to probe the quadrilinear Higgs coupling, λ HHHH = 3M 2 H /v 2 , which is further suppressed by a power of v compared to the triple Higgs coupling, one needs to consider triple Higgs production processes [10][11][12][35][36][37]. As their cross sections are too small to be measurable, these processes are not viable in a foreseen future so that the determination of this last coupling seems hopeless.…”

“…The Higgs boson self coupling measurements and their deviations from the SM expectations provide the hint of alternative scenarios of symmetry breaking with light Higgs boson. These interactions can be parametrised as follows [26] …”

“…The resulting low energy effective theory is the one higgs standard model supplemented with non-renormalizable local operators, of dimension D > 4, which are constructed of standard model fields invariant under the SU(3) × SU(2) × U(1) gauge symmetry. This approach has been applied to precision electroweak observables [3,4,5,6,7,8] and has recently been the subject of further investigations [9,10,11,12,13,14,15]. The advantage of this approach is that it is model independent: any new physics scheme that results in a low energy spectrum coinciding with the SM's can be described in this way.…”
