Effects of General Fatigue Induced by Exhaustive Exercise on Posture and Gait Stability of Healthy Young Men

Abstract: Bipedal walking is a composite task requiring integration of many control circuitries in the brain and spinal cord. The present study was carried out to verify whether an increase in blood lactate, such as that associated with a high intensity exercise, is able to significantly modify the qualitative and/or quantitative aspects of human walking. Eighteen healthy physically male participants, aged between 20 and 24 years (M = 21.8, SD = 1.22), were recruited for the study. For this purpose, the experimental pro… Show more

“…The separate patterns of improvement/deterioration in the function of each of the three sensory systems has not been well-specified previously (Zemkova & Hamar, 2014). Reduced vestibular ability following fatigue protocols was expected (Coco et al, 2021; Derave et al, 2002; Kozinc et al, 2021) as the otolithic organs are known to be sensitive to head accelerations (Zemkova & Hamar, 2014), with horizontal movements induced by running known to show a decreased sensitivity. Thus, following fatigue, there is diminished vestibular information for regulating postural control (Coco et al, 2021; Derave et al, 2002; Kozinc et al, 2021).…”

“…The authors Furfley and Wood [24] even claim that an athlete's attention is the key to success in sports performance. This research's goal was to determine if there is a correlation between a blood lactate increase and the intensity and/or selectivity of attentions.…”

“…( 40 ) did not find significant changes in the CoP measurements in older people after 12 weeks of Tai Chi. The central nervous system and the musculoskeletal system are the main physiological and neurological processes involved in postural control ( 41 ). Qigong exercises are a strategy that encompasses all the fundamental aspects of the balance system, since these exercises train the sensory systems related to postural stability and balance ( 42 ).…”
