Abstract:Asthma is a heterogeneous chronic airway inflammatory disease affecting more than 250 million people worldwide. It is characterized by airway inflammation, smooth muscle contraction, and mucus hypersecretion. The current treatment of asthma includes inhibition of the first two characteristics with little attention being paid for modulation of mucus secretion.
