Effects of foliar application of solutions of ascorbic acid, glycine betaine, salicylic acid on the yield and seed germination of soybean in South Eastern Europe conditions

Abstract: The aim of the research was to test the effect of foliar-applied solutions of ascorbic acid (AsA), glycine betaine (GB), salicylic acid (SA) and water as a second control on the yield and seed germination of the soybean (Glycine hispida (Moench) Maxim.) cultivar 'Sava' as well as their influence on the content of N, P, K and Ca in soybean seeds, and to estimate the intensity of lipid peroxidation and free proline content in soybean seedlings. The plants were treated with the solutions twice. The 1 st spray tre… Show more

“…On a TT biplot, the distance between the treatment and the biplot origin, which represents the vector length of a treatment, is a measure of the treatment's peculiarity, i.e., how it differs from an "average" treatment [49]. Treatments with a longer vector that formed acute angles with desirable traits could be marked as better [50]. Figure 7 shows the strong association between GP and GE, K, and N. On the other hand, the contents of Ca and P were negatively correlated with GP.…”

“…Serbia is among the largest soybean producers in Europe. In the last ten years, soybean areas in Serbia have ranged from 144,000 to 202,000 hectares (Miladinov et al, 2020). In the last ten years, the average soybean yield has been 2.7 t/ha, with a minimum of 1.7 t/ha in 2012 and a maximum of 3.5 t/ha in 2014, which makes Serbia rank among the countries with the highest average yield in Europe (http://www.stat.gov.rs).…”

“…In order to sow such large areas, it is necessary to provide sufficient quantities of varietal seeds of high viability (Vujaković et al, 2008). However, weather conditions, and especially the amount and distribution of precipitation at the time of seed formation and filling, can significantly reduce the viability of seeds (Miladinov et al, 2020a). Seed viability or vigor is a set of traits that determine the activity and behavior of a batch of seeds of commercially acceptable germination in different environmental conditions (ISTA, 2006).…”

“…Time, rate, homogeneity, and synchronization of germination are also critical issues (Ranal et al 2009) simply because the dynamics of the germination process are indicative of the ecology of any plant species. Therefore, different methods are used to increase soybean seed vigor (Miladinov et al, 2020a;Miladinov et al, 2020b). In recent years, increased interest in the application of alternate physical dimensions for seed treatment (Cvijanovic and Djukic, 2020).…”
