Effects of exergaming on cardiovascular risk factors and adipokine levels in women

Abstract: The aim of this study was to examine the effects of exergaming on the cardiovascular risk factors and adipokine levels of women engaged in the music video game Just Dance using the Xbox 360 Kinect console. Triglycerides, total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, FFA, CRP, TNF-α, Il-1β, IL-6, leptin, and resistin were measured in sedentary women before and 1 month after the practice of exergaming. We also evaluated anthropometric parameters. Our results indicate that total serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL were redu… Show more

“…A recent study of dance-based EVGs in 12 women also showed improvements in physiological health markers, such as total serum cholesterol, triglycerides, and LDL cholesterol. 75 Recent reviews 76 have suggested that EVGs may provide an effective means of reducing both cardiovascular risk factors and risk of type 2 diabetes, although studies to date tend to be small, with inconsistent results and frequently poor or moderate méthodologie quality that limit the ability to draw conclusions about the specific impact of EVGs on each risk factor among different populations and disease conditions.…”

“…Alternatively, factors that might contribute to the development of atopic dermatitis might negatively influence resistin levels. For example, exercise has been shown to trigger or worsen atopic dermatitis due to sweating [ 46 , 47 ], and it was reported to decrease levels of resistin [ 48 , 49 ]. Another example is impairment of thyroid function, which was shown to decrease resistin [ 50 ], and to augment atopic dermatitis [ 51 ].…”

“…Plasma CRP and cytokines (TNF- α , IL-6, IL-10, IL-8, sL-selectin, and IL-1 β ) were measured by ELISA, according to the manufacturer's instructions (DuoSet Kit: Quantikine, R&D System, Minneapolis, MN, USA). A standard curve was produced for each set of samples, and the cytokine was assayed [ 11 ].…”
