Effects of exercise treatment with or without heat and steam generating sheet on urine loss in community‐dwelling Japanese elderly women with urinary incontinence

Abstract: This data suggests that exercise treatment with HSGS is more effective for treating urine loss regardless of UI type. The HSGS can be used as a supplementary treatment method to enhance the effects of exercise on women with urge, mixed and stress UI.

“…Twenty‐one trials involving 1,281 women (665 PFMT, 616 controls) were included, 15 of which were included in the previous version of the review; Eighteen trials (1,051 women) contributed data to the meta‐analysis, but three trials contained no data usable for the pooled analysis . Twelve trials contributed to the analysis of primary outcomes . One trial from the previous review was excluded because it was considered to be confounded by the choice of sham .…”

“…The HSGS also has beneficial effects for the different urinary incontinence types. Research reveals higher cure rates in those with stress urinary incontinence with the combination of both exercise and heat; however, there is strong evidence that the HSGS can be used as a supplementary treatment method in order to enhance the effects of exercise on those with urge, mixed, and stress urinary incontinence (Kim et al, 2011b) (Table 7). …”
