Effects of Endurance and Endurance Strength Training on Body Composition and Physical Capacity in Women with Abdominal Obesity

Abstract: Aims: To compare the effects of endurance training with endurance strength training on the anthropometric, body composition, physical capacity, and circulatory parameters in obese women. Methods: 44 women with abdominal obesity were randomized into groups A and B, and asked to perform endurance (A) and endurance strength training (B) for 3 months, 3 times/week, for 60 min. Dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry and Graded Exercise Test were performed before and after training. Results: Significant decreases in body … Show more

“…This observation is also consistent with other studies [56]. Furthermore, increased physical activity has been extensively reported to result in reduction in BMI [57–59]. However, despite the fact that this ageing population was an active one, we observed no association of physical activity with BMI.…”

“…The decrease in WC is particularly important, as this parameter is considered to be an independent factor of cardiovascular risk. [30] Limitations of this study include the relatively small number of participants completing the intervention and short follow-up. As the ECE PEDO is a practical, simple to use and wearable activity monitor that is feasible for use in clinical and research settings, further studies should investigate the utility of ECE PEDO in different intensity walking and explore the long-term effectiveness in different populations.…”
