Wi-Fi technology is present in homes, universities, restaurants, and pubs worldwide, thus gaining notorious space in communication systems, especially due to smart technologies improvement. However, several devices can interfere with this network, reducing or even causing data loss on transferences. The Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) caused by lighting equipment is a bad-known and little-analyzed phenomenon in Brazil. The massive use of these technologies needs to be evaluated, remarking a critical analysis of its permitted limits. This study aims to verify and evaluate the possible influences that lighting technologies can generate on communication networks (Wi-Fi) through Electromagnetic Interference (EMI). The following article is the result of several tests under the influence of seven different types of lighting sources among thirteen samples to assess the influence of lighting systems on Wi-Fi networks. The tests were made in a shielded environment, on the LabLux -UFF (Laboratório de Luminotécnica da UFF), using the Iperf3 software.

The Brazilian economic scenario promotes sustainable development by, among other actions, reducing the pressure on the expansion of electricity capacity. Furthermore, efficiency and reliability may be achieved through regulations and standardised production. From this perspective, there is a steadfast need for continuous improvement in the process of certification of products in the country. This shall apply to the energy sector, in which certifications of LED (light-emitting diode) lamps are part of the Brazilian Labelling Program (PBE), coordinated by Inmetro (Brazilian accreditation body). PBE seeks to provide technical information about the products to support consumers’ choices, stimulating industry competitiveness and improve equipment reliability. From this standpoint, this article seeks to present an analysis of the certification process of LED lamps to propose reviewing requirements into the current label which might help to change the consumers’ energy consumption-related decision-making using the multi-criteria decision-making method (MCDM), TOPSIS. To this end, not only energy efficiency was observed but also other aspects of generated light quality and power quality currently considered as requirements for compulsory LED lighting certification.

The consumption of electric energy in Brazil in 2018 was 472 GWh, and 28.85% of consumption refers to the residential sector. The Brazilian market for Light Emitting Diode (LED) products grows more than 30% a year, while LED imports have grown from 131 million units in 2015 to 145 million in 2017 (+10.6%). Therefore, the need to improve the technical and conformity assessment requirements for LED bulbs sold in Brazil is evident. This work analyses Electrical and Luminotechnical Parameters in LED lamps considering Brazilian standards analysing some parameters of LED lamps, which employ different topologies in their drivers, when submitted to voltage magnitude variation. Samples are tested on 18 single-base LED lamps with an integrated control device, GLS LED bulbs, available at the Brazilian market. The methodology consists in applying nominals voltages as INMETRO standards determinates. Throughout the tests, measurements are done and compared with the levels established by Brazilian standards. The results show that there are lamps in this study that obtained the certification by regulated Brazilian organization but does not attend to the level determinate by the Brazilian standard, exposing an opportunity for improvement to existing standards and certification process.
