Effects of Dystocia on the Cardiac Biomarker Troponin I, Acid-Base Balance and Blood Gases Alongside the Hematobiochemical Profiles in Female Dromedary Camels

Abstract: This experiment was aimed to document the effect of dystocia in female camels on acid-base elements and blood gas parameters alongside the hemato-biochemical profiles compared to those with eutocia. Eighteen dystotic female dromedary camels were examined. Animals were received within 24, 48, 72, and >72h of birth. Signs included depression, anorexia, distress, colic, straining, and exhaustion. Ten eutocic females were used as controls. Compared to a mean value of 7.37±0.01in the control group, the blood pH in … Show more

“…The cardiac muscle marker cTnI tested significantly elevated in diseased versus age-matched healthy calves. This biomarker has also been reported to be high in several conditions in camels pointing out to the cardiac insult (Tharwat et al , 2024Tharwat 2023). Similar significant increases were found in the serum levels of the acute phase proteins SAA and haptoglobin.…”

“…Complete acid-base and blood gas panel was measured immediately after the collection of heparinized blood sample by a portable veterinary analyzer (I-STAT ® , Abaxis, California, USA). This panel included (1) pH (2) oxygen partial pressure (PO2) (3) carbon dioxide partial pressure (PCO2) (4) total carbon dioxide (TCO2) (5) excess of base (BE) (6) oxygen saturation (So2) ( 7) bicarbonate (HCO3) (8) anion gap (AG) and ( 9) lactate (Tharwat 2015;2021a,b;2023;Tharwat et al , 2024Tharwat and Al-Sobayil 2014a,b,c).…”

“…The transition period (TP) is associated with the progressive development of the fetus, readiness for calving and initiation of milk production. Several periparturient diseases were recorded during this phase (Tharwat et al 2015a,b;Tharwat et al 2024). During TP, the animal expresses a state of negative energy balance.…”

“…These disorders may include lameness, mastitis, rumen acidosis, ketosis, milk fever, left-displaced abomasum, fatty liver, hypophosphatemia, post-parturient hemoglobinuria, subacute ruminal acidosis, retained placenta and metritis (Tharwat et al 2004a, b;Sundrum 2015). Many researches had reported and emphasized the diagnostic and prognostic indicators of several biomarkers in animal´s species (Tharwat 2012(Tharwat , 2020a2023;Tharwat et al 2012aTharwat et al , 2013aTharwat et al , b, c, d, e, 2014a2024;Al-Sobayil 2014a, b, 2015a;2018a, b;2020, 2022aAl-Sobayil and Tharwat 2021;Tharwat and El-Deeb 2021;Almundarij and Tharwat 2023).…”
