Effects of Drought Stress on Key Enzymes of Carbon Metabolism, Photosynthetic Characteristics and Agronomic Traits of Soybean at the Flowering Stage under Different Soil Substrates

Abstract: Soybean is an important legume food crop, and its seeds are rich in nutrients, providing humans and animals with edible oil and protein feed. However, soybean is sensitive to water requirements, and drought is an important factor limiting soybean yield and quality. This study used Heinong 84 (drought resistant variety) and Hefeng 46 (intermediate variety) as tested varieties planted in chernozem, albic, and black soils. The effects of drought stress on the activities of key enzymes in carbon metabolism and pho… Show more

“…Changes in chlorophyll uorescence parameters may re ect the degree of damage to photosynthetic organs of plants under stress [57]. F0 represents the initial uorescence of PSII, Fm represents the maximum uorescence of PSII, Fv/Fm represents the maximum photochemical e ciency of PSII, and qP represents the photochemical quenching coe cient of PSII.…”

“…Drought stress, which often inhibits plant growth rate, is accompanied by visible damage, such as leaf yellowing 19 . In addition to such visible damage, it can also induce the excessive accumulation of toxic ROS, leading to oxidative stress, which destroys cellular structures, damages biological macromolecules, such as lipids, proteins, and DNA, and ultimately leads to cell death 20 .…”

“…Through previous experiments, the effects of drought stress on the activities of key enzymes in carbon metabolism and photosynthetic characteristics of the two soybean varieties were compared. Heinong84 (HN84) was determined to be a drought tolerant variety and Hefeng46 (HF46) was a medium drought tolerant variety (Song et al,2022) and the test method was sand culture. A plastic pot with a height of 35 cm and an inner diameter of 30 cm with two holes punched at the bottom, was used in the test.…”
