“…Several researchers have reported positive correlations of CTD with grain yields of wheat (Blum et al, 1989;Amani et al, 1996;Reynolds et al, 1998;Ayeneh et al, 2002;Balota et al, 2007;Thapa et al, 2018), and their results corroborate the results for sugarcane in the present study. F v /F m had the highest correlation with the grain yield of wheat under drought stress (Paknejad et al, 2007), and the same trend was observed in this study under limited irrigation.…”

“…The data suggest that with a smaller decrease in RWC, photochemical activity is less affected by water deficit. A similar response was observed by Liu et al (2006) and Silva et al (2007) in sugarcane, and by Paknejad et al (2007) in wheat. Under water deficit conditions, leaf RWC was significantly reduced in most genotypes, and this was associated with decreases in radiation efficiency ( F v / F m ) and productivity.…”

“…It has also been used in selecting drought-tolerant genotypes in other crops such as beans, Phaseolus vulgaris L. (Souza et al 2004), wheat, Triticum spp. (Paknejad et al 2007), subterranean clover, Trifolium subterraneum L. (Mauro et al 2011) and maize, Zea mays (Zou et al 2009). Another advantage of using F v / F m in the selection of cultivars is that this characteristic has high heritability (Zhang et al 2000).…”

“…Under drought conditions, F 0 may increase or decrease, while F M , F V and F V /F M all decrease. These parameters of chlorophyll fluorescence kinetics (PCFKs) and imaging are considered as very powerful and reliable indicators of the impact of various abiotic stresses, including drought, on plant physiological processes (Paknejad et al, 2007;Khayatnezhad et al, 2011;Jansen et al, 2014;Sharma et al, 2014b). Under drought conditions, crop varieties that maintain high F V /F M under water-limited conditions are considered to be stress tolerant (Zlatev, 2009), and indicate efficient protection of PSII activity.…”
