Effects of Driving Frequency and Voltage on the Performances of Vibrating Mesh Nebulizers

Abstract: The functional components of vibrating mesh nebulizers are a piezoelectric ceramic with a mesh mounted on one side, a reservoir, and a driving circuit. The piezoelectric material vibrates at a specific intrinsic frequency, and when the mechanical resonance frequency of the piezoelectric ceramic and the frequency of the applied electrical signal match, the vibration amplitude of the ceramic is greatest. In the present study, nebulizing performances were tested with respect to driving voltage amplitude after aut… Show more

“…This viscosity is similar to that of a 13% glycerol solution [ 29 ]. It is known that a change in resonance frequency of the PZT is necessary to adapt to the change in impedance due the temperature of PZT and solution viscosity [ 30 , 31 ]. Impedance of the PZT increased as IgG concentration increased in both IgG temperature conditions Fig.…”

“…Cold_S and RTequ_S were used as controls in cold IgG (a; Cold_IgG) and cold IgG equilibrated at RT for 15 min (b; RTequ_IgG), respectively. All data are presented as mean ± SD value viscosity [30,31]. Impedance of the PZT increased as IgG concentration increased in both IgG temperature conditions Fig.…”

“…Samples were aerosolized using a piezo vibrating mesh nebulizer (1100 holes, 6 um of diameter, and 110 kHz of vibrating frequency) [ 38 ] placed inside a chamber (generation chamber) and controlled by a nebulizer control board. The OPC withdrew an aerosol sample (for a duration of 1 min) from the generation chamber using its integrated fan.…”

“…Metallic VMA are extensively being researched for atomization rate 22 , nozzle taper angle 23 , and effect of operating parameters on its performance 24 . However, there is limited investigation on droplet size distribution and most research with VMA devices only investigate atomization of water.…”
