Effects of dobutamine hydrochloride on cardiovascular function in horses anesthetized with isoflurane with or without acepromazine maleate premedication

Abstract: OBJECTIVE To determine the effects of acepromazine maleate premedication on cardiovascular function before and after infusion of dobutamine hydrochloride for 30 minutes in isoflurane-anesthetized horses. ANIMALS 6 healthy adult horses. PROCEDURES Each horse was anesthetized once following premedication with acepromazine (0.02 mg/kg, IV) administered 30 minutes prior to anesthetic induction (ACP+ treatment) and once without premedication (ACP- treatment). Anesthesia was induced with IV administration of xylazin… Show more

“…reported significant increases or at least no changes in HR (Craig et al, 2007;Dancker et al, 2018;Gehlen et al, 2006;Lee et al, 1998;Ohta et al, 2013;Schauvliege et al, 2008;Schier et al, 2016;de Vries et al, 2009). The observed decrease in HR was probably due to a baro-receptor reflex in response to an increase in systemic blood pressure (139 ± 21 mmHg (mean ± SD)…”

“…Specifically, more females died after the intraperitoneal injection compared with males (10). Previous reports have also shown that the ketamine, xylazine, and diazepam combination is effective to induce anesthesia for surgical procedures (20)(21)(22)(23)(24).…”

“…Among C57BL/6, BALB and ICR mice, no deaths occurred in the subcutaneous administration groups, whilel6.7% (10 of 60 mice) of mice injected intraperitoneally died 8 . Also, previous reports have shown that the ketamine, xylazine and diazepam cocktail is effective to induce anesthesia for surgical procedures 15,19 . To improve user experience, we developed a mobile app for use during anesthetic procedures.…”
