Effects of Different Levels of Rape Seeds in the Diet on Performance, Blood and Bone Parameters of Broiler Chickens

Abstract: The aim of the study was to investigate the effects of different levels of rape "00" seeds in the diet on the performance, blood and bone parameters of broilers. A total of 180 1-day-old male Ross 308 chicks were divided into four groups. Group I (the control) was fed on a maize, wheat and soybean diet. Different levels of rape seeds were used in the experimental diets (low, medium and high level in II, III and IV groups, respectively) instead of a soybean meal. The amount of MJ AME N from rape seeds in total … Show more

“…All levels of CM used in the present study increased serum TG without any significant effect on TC compared to CON. Similar to our findings, Szymeczko et al (2010) reported that broilers fed on rapeseeds diets had higher level of TG compared to the control group and no significant effect was found on serum TC. Kamran Azad et al (2009) did not show a significant effect of canola seeds used in broiler diets in the amount of 7.5 and 15% on serum TG and TC.…”

“…The available literature lacks results confirming the influence of different levels of rapeseeds on muscular metabolism indices. However Szymeczko et al (2010) reported that the concentration of creatinine was lower in birds fed the diets with the highest level of rapeseeds.…”

“…Other studies support this finding. High rapeseed inclusion in broiler diets degraded performance in studies of McNeill et al (2004), Taraz et al (2006), Toghyani et al (2009), and Szymeczko et al (2010). In the current study mortality and cumulative mortality in the experimental groups that received rapeseed meal were notably high.…”

“…This increased the mortality of the experiment groups that received rapeseed meal or rapeseed and pea meal as a starter diet. Szymeczko et al (2010) found that the negative effect of a high dietary level of whole rape seeds was much clearer in young birds than in more mature birds. We found indications that the starter diets (soybean or rapeseed and pea) had a long-lasting effect on broiler performance: birds on rapeseed meal and pea starter diet had significantly inferior growth, smaller body weight, lower feed intake, and poorer FCR in starter period and during the whole growing period.…”
