Effects of different levels of dietary Citrus Limon essential oil on some blood parameters and antioxidant status in Afshari Ewes

Abstract: Citrus Limon Oil (CLO) is known as antioxidant resource and contains limonoids, flavonoids and phenolic compounds. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of different levels of CLO on blood parameters and antioxidant status in Afshari ewes. Six adults Afshari ewes (3-4 years old and 51±5 kg) were randomly allocated to 3×3 Latin square design with three diets in 21 days period. Dietary treatments included:1) control diet, 2) control diet with 200 mg/day CLO, and 3) control diet with 400 mg/day CLO.… Show more

“…In afshari ewes, treatment with 200 mg/day of Citrus limon EO resulted in a decrease in cholesterol, TGs, and LDL by 15%, 19%, and 5%, respectively, while increasing HDL by 16%. Treatment with 400 mg/day showed even greater changes, with an increase in HDL by 23%, and a decrease in TC, TGs, and VLDL by 27%, 32%, and 41% respectively (Mojtahedin et al, 2018). In streptozotocin‐induced diabetic rats treated with D‐limonene at 50 mg/kg/day for 28 days, results showed a decreased in LDL by 20%, a decrease in TC by 57%, and a decrease in TGs by 20% (Bacanlı et al, 2017).…”

“…Consumption of A. sinensis polysaccharides decreased the serum concentration of total cholesterol in diabetic mice and accelerated serum FFA oxidation in mice [ 19 , 20 ]. In addition, botanical essential oils, a main component of A. sinensis , lowered the serum concentration of total cholesterol in pigs and sheep [ 21 , 22 ]. In the current study, serum TG concentrations were generally lower in yak calves consuming the herbal extracts, especially G. uralensis , than in control yak calves.…”
