Effects of different etching strategies on the microtensile repair bond strength of beautifil II giomer material

Abstract: BackgroundConsidering the differences in the filler particles between giomer and conventional composite resins and the importance of these fillers in the repair bond strength, the aim was to evaluate the effects of different etching strategies with phosphoric acid (PA) and hydrofluoric acid (HF) on the microtensile repair bond strength (µTRBS) of giomer.Material and MethodsTen giomer blocks were randomly assigned into 10: 1) control; 2) 37%PA-20s; 3) 3%HF-20s; 4) 3%HF-120s; 5) 9.6%HF-20s; 6) 9.6%HF-120s; 7) 37… Show more

“…Loomans et al 16 found that surface roughness in resin composites was unaffected by phosphoric acid. Moreover, Bahari et al 17 reported that rough and regular surfaces were significantly smoothed after etching with 37% phosphoric acid, surface roughness has decreased, as a result, the bond strength was significantly reduced.…”

“…Essas partículas, por meio da tecnologia Giomer, conferem ao material a propriedade de ser bioativo. Além disso, mostra-se superior em propriedades mecânicas pela incorporação de uma maior quantidade de carga inorgânica (Shofu Flowable F00 -67,3%), igualando a uma resina convencional (Filltek Supreme XT Universal -72,5%) 5,6 .…”

“…The success of these procedures mainly depends on the composite resin adhesion to the artificial teeth [7]. Various methods have been reported to improve the reactivity of highly converted composites; these methods include acid etching [9], air abrasion [10] and the use of adhesives [11]. There is no consensus on the results obtained with the different procedures.…”
