Effects of different drip irrigation patterns on water distribution in potted Yunnan red loam and yellow-sand soil and pepper growth

Abstract: It is important to study the law of water distribution in potted soil and the appropriate irrigation methods for improving the level of water-saving irrigation in greenhouse cultivation. In this study, pepper was taken as the experimental crop. Two kinds of drip irrigation models (root zone infiltrating irrigation and surface drip irrigation) and two kinds of irrigation emitter arrangements (a 3 × 120° distribution and a 2 × 180° distribution) were used to plot out the distribution pattern of soil water in a p… Show more

“…Uniform distribution of soil moisture between soil depths of 15 to 37 cm in sandy loam soil at 30 cm dripper spacing was assessed with parallel contour lines plotted in Surfer 7.0 software with better uniformity of water spread [40]. The soil matric potential is decided by transporting irrigation water within the soil under a drip irrigation system [41]. The salt distribution in peas under a drip irrigation system was found to increase the soil salinity at the vertical distance from the dripper point and around the periphery of the wetted zone [42].…”

“…For the continuity of the study, based on the methods and findings of previous studies ( Yu et al, 2018 , Yu et al, 2015 ; Zhang et al, 2018 , 2019a , b ), this study first quantitatively examined the water content of a Yunnan SR at a small scale (flowerpot) under IG and in the absence of crop cultivation, and then the potential of IG for improving the WUE of a specific crop (Sichuan hot pepper) cultivated on the SR. Our results provide theoretical and experimental data support for the high-efficiency application of root-zone micro-irrigation in greenhouse agriculture in Yunnan, China.…”
