Poultry is susceptible to mycotoxicoses caused by aflatoxins. Two experiments were carried out, where twenty-four, 28days old and 144 one-day-old broilers were assigned to six diets respectively. The diets were: diet1 (no aflatoxin and not fermented), diet2 (no aflatoxin and fermented without yeast), diet3 (no aflatoxin and fermented with yeast), diet4 (contained aflatoxin and not fermented), diet5 (contained aflatoxin and fermented without yeast) and diet6 (contained aflatoxin fermented with yeast). The aflatoxins were 20.034 and 30.08ppb for the first and second experiments respectively. In the first experiment, each diet was assigned to 4 chickens for 7days adaptation and 7days for feces and leftover collection. The feces were oven dried for the determination of dry matter digestibility (DMD), metabolizable energy (ME) and nitrogen (MN). In the second experiment, each diet was assigned to six chicks, replicated 4 times for 21days. Leftovers and mortalities were recorded daily and chicks were weighed on a weekly basis. The results showed that DMD and MN were significantly (p<0.05) affected by fermentation. Natural fermentation improved DMD of the clean and contaminated diets. No difference found in feed intake and body weight gain. However, gain: feed ratio was significantly (p=0.048) better in broilers fed diets fermented naturally. The mortality rate was 75.0% in chicks fed on aflatoxin diet which was not fermented. Therefore, natural fermentation is the best method of improving the quality of aflatoxin contaminated feed for broilers.

In recent years, the use of antibiotics in feed has been prohibited, due to residues in poultry products and the effect of resistance on certain bacteria. An alternative to antibiotics is a combination of probiotics and prebiotics, known as synbiotics. This research aims to examine the effect of synbiotics between Moringa and Yeast (MYS) in feed on growth and feed efficiency in starter phase broilers. A total of 160 day-old-chick (DOD) broiler chickens of the MB 202 strain were randomly divided into 4 treatment groups, namely: broiler group fed with 0.2% MYS (S1); 0.4% MYS (S2); and 0.6% MYS (S3) supplementation, respectively. Control group chickens were fed without MYS (S0). Each treatment had 5 repetitions using 40 birds. The results showed that the response of broilers to MYS administration from 1-14 days of age did not show any significant difference (P>0.05) compared to controls (without MYS). The positive response of broilers to MYS administration was seen to be significant (P<0.05) starting at 15-21 days of age, namely a significant decrease in feed consumption (P<0.05) in the S2 and S3 broiler groups. The highest feed efficiency was found in the S2 broiler group. It was concluded that the addition of synbiotics between Moringa and Yeast (MYS) in feed at the level of 0.2% to broiler feed only saw an impact starting at 15-21 days of age, seen from a decrease in feed consumption and an increase in feed efficiency.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate nutritional content of tofu waste mixed with carrot juice and fermented with Saccharomyces spp. (TWCF), so that it has potential as a feed supplement that is rich in β-carotene, high in protein and lysine, and contains probiotics. The laying hens (n=192, 70 weeks old) were randomly allotted into 4 diets groups. The hens were fed diets i) without TWCF as a control diets (TF0), ii) supplemented with 2% TWCF (B); iii) supplemented with 4% TWCF (C); and iv) supplemented with 6% TWCF (D). Inclusion of TWCF in diets increased nutrient digestibility (DM, OM, and CP) significantly (P≤0.05). Fermentation of TWC with YC (TWCF) can increase (P≤0.05) nutrient of TWC especially: CP, Lysine, and BC. Inclusion up to 2% TWCF can be used in laying hen diets to improve (P≤0.05) feed digestibility (DM, OM, CP), egg production, eggshell thickness, yolk color, BC, and yolk cholesterol. It is concluded that dietary supplementation of laying hens with TWCF can increase hen-day production, egg shell thickness, BC, and egg yolk color.
