“…Amongst different immuno-stimulants, medicinal herbs incorporate chemical component that improve immunity, antioxidant capacity, enhance gut microbitoa and health as well as reduce the oxidative/inflammation pathways ( Yang et al, 2021 ; Reith et al, 2022 ), making the animal more resistant to external stressors ( Al-Garadi et al, 2023 ; Saracila et al, 2023 ). The mode of action of medicinal plants on heat-stressed broilers can be one of the following: 1) stimulating health state by improving the antioxidant system which can directly remove ROS produced as a result of stress (Abo Ghanima et al, 2023 ), and 2) MPs can also activate antioxidant enzymes and constrain pro-oxidant enzymes, supporting the health status of broiler exposed to HS.…”

“…When 100 mg/L chicory extract was added to the water of heat‐stressed broilers, an improvement was recorded in their weight gain, feed intake and feed conversion ratio (Yazdkhasti et al, 2018). Also, Abo Ghanima, Aljahdali, Abduljadayel, Shafi, Qadhi and Abd El‐Hack (2023) reported that administering chicory extract at 3 g/kg increased body weight, weight gain, reduced feed intake, FCR and mortality. In addition, the findings of Abo Ghanima, Aljahdali, Abduljadayel, Shafi, Qadhi, Abd El‐Hack and Mohamed (2023) revealed significant reductions in MDA, Catalase, GRP, SAA and TRF in broiler chickens fed chicory extracts.…”

“…Some EO have improved the immune system of chickens, which can help reduce the incidence of disease under heat stress conditions ( Perini et al, 2020 ; Ruff et al, 2021 ; Yilmaz and Gul, 2023b ; Jahja et al, 2023 ). Furthermore, certain EO can modulate the expression of genes related to stress response and immune function, which may contribute to their beneficial effects on chicken health ( Abo Ghanima et al, 2023 ; Ding et al, 2023 ; Wu et al, 2023 ). Hence, the purpose of the present study was to confirm and extend previous research conducted in our laboratory with the EO of Lippia origanoides and betaine from an herbal extract on performance, intestinal integrity, bone mineralization, and meat quality in broiler chickens subjected to cyclic heat stress.…”
