Effects of dietary short‐chain fatty acid salts on the growth performance, digestive, antioxidant and immune enzyme activities, immune‐related gene expression and resistance to Vibro parahaemolytics infection in juvenile ridgetail white prawn ( Exopalaemon carinicauda )

Abstract: An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to study the effects of dietary short‐chain fatty acid salts, sodium acetate (SA), sodium propionate (SP) and sodium butyrate (SB), on the growth performance, digestive ability, immune parameters and disease resistance of juvenile Exopalaemon carinicauda. Shrimps (14.60 ± 1.48 mg) were fed with 10 experimental diets containing 0.0 (control), 0.25%, 0.5% and 1% of SA, SB and SP in triplicate. The highest survival rate was observed in the SP (0.5%) group (p < 0.05). The fina… Show more

“…The amplification reactions for quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR) were performed in 96-well plates using a total volume of 20 μ L, containing 0.4 μ L of each primer, 4 μ L of cDNA template, 10 μ L of 2 × ChamQ SYBR qPCR Master Mix (Vazyme Biotech Co., Ltd., China), 0.4 μ L of ROX Reference Dye (Vazyme Biotech Co., Ltd., China), and 4.8 μ L of sterilized double-distilled water. The qRT-PCR was performed with an ABI StepOnePlus Real-Time PCR System using the following cycle conditions: 95°C for 30 s, followed by 40 cycles of 95°C for10 s, and 60°C for 30 s [ 34 ]. Melting curve analysis was carried out to validate that only one PCR product was obtained in these reactions.…”

“…SCFAs used as feed additives increased phagocytosis index, lysozyme activity, and immunity-related genes (IL1-β, TNF-α, and TGF-β) in fish (Hoseinifar et al, 2016 b). Moreover, it has been shown that SCFA-binding G protein-coupled receptors are mainly expressed in innate immune cells and have been suggested as a possible mechanism for the effects of SCFAs on mammalian immunity (Deng et al, 2021;.…”

“…It has proven to be a very important breed for fishery farmers, because of its good environmental adaptability, rapid growth, and high economic value (Liang et al, 2012;Gao et al, 2021). At present, the annual output of E. carinicauda is about 50 000 tonnes (Deng et al, 2021). However, with the expansion of the breeding scale of E. carinicauda, the outbreaks of diseases caused by bacteria or viruses are becoming more frequent, which has caused serious financial losses to farmers.…”
