Effects of decabromodiphenyl ethane flame retardant on the combustion behavior and physical‐mechanical properties of chloroprene rubber: Experimental and molecular dynamic simulation

Abstract: Herein, a molecular dynamics simulation method was used to predict the compatibility of chloroprene rubber (CR) and decabromodiphenyl ethane (DBDPE) and to investigate the mechanical properties of CR-based composites. The limiting oxygen index and cone calorimeter measurement values indicated that the addition of DBDPE was beneficial for reducing the peak heat release rate during combustion and facilitating the formation of compact and strong char layers for carbon black-filled CR composites, resulting in effi… Show more

“…It contains an unsaturated polymer backbone and a large amount of Polarized chlorine 1 . Owing to the reduced activity of double bonds and α‐methylene on the macromolecular chain, CR is generally crosslinked by metal oxides, 2,3 which is different from the crosslinking mechanism of other diene rubbers. CR offers a unique combination of mechanical properties and dynamic deformation and has been widely used in wire and cable sheathing, air springs, oil‐resistant rubber products, heat‐resistant conveyor belts, road joint sealants, bridge bearings, flame‐retardant rubber products, and adhesives 4–7 .…”
