Effects of Cyclosporin A on Alveolar Bone: An Experimental Study in the Rat

Food was then changed to normal standard food and the effect on the debilitated alveolar bones of the treatment combined with la-OH-Dg (O,1 "g/kg, oral administration), an analogue of active vitarnin D3, and eel calcitonin (O.2 U/kg, intramuscular injection) was investigated. The results were as follows : 1. Radiological findings In the calcium-deficient food + standard food + active type vitamin D3 + ECT group and calcium-deficient food + standard food + ECT + active type vitamin D3 group as compared with the group given only normal standard food, the alveolar bones showed thicker bone layers and increase in and regular arrangement of trabeculae. Calcium-deficient food + standard food + ECT + active type vitamin D3 group showed the most increase in trabeculae next to the control group and about even density. 2. Findings from the analysis on the X-ray microanalyzer In relative Ca ratio and P ratio as compared with the control group, calcium-deficient food + standard food + ECT + active type vitamin D3 group showed most approximation, 3. Histopathological findings 1) Findings form contact rnicroradiograms In the group treated by cornbination with ECT and active type vitamin D3, the alveolar bones grew thick; Haversian canals and the surrounding bone lacunae increased; and acceleration effect on the bone construction was recongnized.

Interleukin-6 counteracts effects of cyclosporin A on extracellular matrix metabolism by human dermal fibroblasts

Effect of the long-term administration of Cyclosporine A on bone healing around osseointegrated titanium implants: A histomorphometric study in the rabbit tibia

“…It has been demonstrated that CsA can decrease osteoclast formation and consequently bone resorption by inhibiting the fusion of pre‐osteoclasts in vitro (Orcel, Denne, & de Vernejoul, ). On the other hand, an in vivo study in rats has demonstrated induced osteopenia characterized by increased osteoclasia in periodontal sites and reduced bone formation (Fu, Hsieh, Nieh, Wikesjo, & Liu, ). A recent study (Espitalier et al, ) has showed effective bone repair and a significant increase in bone regeneration when CsA was daily administered in a rat model of bone marrow allograft.…”
