Effects of culture medium strength and antioxidants on adventitious bud multiplication, hyperhydricity and tissue browning of date palm cv. Aziza Bouzid

Abstract: The effects of medium strength as well as different antioxidant types and concentrations on adventitious shoot bud multiplication, hyperhydricity and tissue browning of date palm cv. Aziza Bouzid were evaluated. Organogenic cultures of date palm cv. Aziza Bouzid were cultured on semi-solid Murashige and Skoog medium at half-strength (MS/2) or onethird-strength (MS/3), supplemented with 0.5 mg/L 2-naphthoxyacetic acid (NOA), 0.5 mg/L kinetin, and different concentrations of activated charcoal and polyvinylpyrro… Show more

“…Some studies mentioned that reducing MS media strength may reduce osmosis levels and improve the acclimatization process in some plants i.e., Typhonium flagelliforme (Rezali et al, 2017), date palm cv. Aziza Bouzid (Elmaataoui et al, 2020), and apple (Malus domestica Borkh) 'Golden Delicious', 'Maksat', and 'Voskhod' (Kabylbekova et al, 2020). Nine out of a total of 25 tubes or clusters (Table 1) of both transgenic and control (wild type) acclimatization-ready sugarcane plantlets died after the acclimatization process.…”

“…Furthermore, it has been shown that plants grown in vitro conditions occasionally experience nutritional stress and exhibit restricted root system growth to maximize nutrient absorption. Therefore, it's important to maximize nutrient concentrations since they frequently affect root growth by activating local and systemic signaling pathways (Elmaataoui et al 2020). Therefore the impact of medium strength (full strength MS, ½ MS, and ¼ MS) on the rooting efficiency of E. alba microshoots was also investigated (Table 3).…”
