“…The suggestion that corticosteroids may be of value in the treatment of myocardial infarction (Baroody and Baroody, 1965;Dall and Buchanan, 1962) has been disputed. Our results suggest that the hypercoagulability of blood reported in patients on corticosteroids (Ozsoylu, Strauss, and Diamond, 1962;Eisenmenger, Slater, and Bongiovanni, 1952) was not of clinical significance. Arteritis due to underlying disease may well have been blamed on corticosteroids in the past (Bywaters and Scott, 1963;Parker and Thomas, 1959 (Murray and Sladden, 1965) among the treated was in a patient with generalized aspergillosis at necropsy.…”

“…Ozsoylu y cols. 16 sugieren que los corticoides inducirian aumento del factor VIII y de otras protemas sericas, que favorccen el estado de hipercoagulabilidad. Liberman 17 menciona una disminucion de la actividad fibrinoh'tica durante el tratamiento esteroidal y sugiere que existiria una lisis incomplcta del trombo, favoreciendo de esta manera un aumento en el deposito de fibrina y plaquetas.…”

“…26 Prednisolone has been associated with an increase in FVIII, vWF and PAI-1. 27,28 Dexamethasone has been shown to cause a modest but clear rise in the activity of FVII, FVIII, FIX and fibrinogen in healthy volunteers, but to have no significant effect on PAI-1. 29 The use of corticosteroids during inflammatory states has been consistently associated with reduced levels of vWF and fibrinogen but increased PAI-1.…”
