Effects of Cooperative Learning with Dynamic Mathematics Software (DMS) on Learning Inversely Proportional Functions

Abstract: The study focuses on the integration of dynamic mathematics software (DMS) and cooperative learning into the teaching and learning process of inversely proportional functions. The aim of the study is to investigate the effects of integrating DMS with cooperative learning on students’ mathematics achievement using quasi-experimental research design. Students in treatment group learnt inverse proportional functions in cooperative learning groups with DMS while those in control group had typical approach of inst… Show more

“…Integration of dynamic geometry software (DGS) in mathematics instruction is one approach to motivate students, especially teenagers, as teenagers have claimed a preference to work in a computer environment (Zilka, 2020). DGS facilitates students' cognition of different mathematical concepts, representations, and their interconnections (Chan & Zhou, 2020;Pierce et al, 2011). In such computer-based environments, students can simulate, model, and verify mathematical relations (Olivero & Robutti, 2007).…”

“…Cooperative learning [10] is a form of organizing the class context based on the determined and well-defined strategies according to the learners grouping in the class into smaller groups, with each member having different capabilities and they are asked to cooperate and interact. They do a special task together to teach each other through interaction in a way that all the students take on learning roles to achieve goals under the guidance of the teacher.…”

“…CL is an instructional teaching model whereby students cooperate with one another to achieve a same objective [18][19][20]. Working together often improved the end result; nevertheless, each of the students are accountable for their own achievement.…”
