Effects of Coal Characteristics on the Properties of Coal Water Slurry

Abstract: The effects of coal characteristics on the properties of coal water slurry (CWS) were systemically studied using sixteen Chinese coals of different ranks from lignite to anthracite. The correlation between coal properties and CWS characteristics were investigated by multivariate progressive regression analysis. CWS properties examined in this study included slurryability (concentration of slurry that gives an apparent viscosity at 1200 mPa Á s at a shear rate of 28.38 s À1 ), rheological behavior (represented … Show more

“…Characteristics of coal-like type of coal, oxygen-to-carbon ratio, and particle size provide a powerful impact on the rheology of CWS. 38,39 Distilled water was added to prepare the CWS to avoid contaminations in water. In the present investigation, calcium lignosulfonate as a dispersant was used in CWS.…”

“…At high shear rate 1,000-100,000 also with fine particle size of slurry trend mostly toward pseudoplastic. 38 Other coal properties like proximate analysis, ultimate analysis, oxygen to carbon ratio, and porosity affected slurry ability and viscosity. Kotli coal better properties may be due to lower ash particle; therefore, hydrophilicity of coal surface decreased.…”

“…Yuchi [7] studied the effects of the coal characteristics on the properties of CWS such as slurryability, rheological behaviour, and static stability, by using sixteen Chinese coals with different coal ranks from lignite to anthracite. They also provided the correlations between the CWS properties and 18 parameters from 40 coal properties by the multivariate progressive regression method.…”
