Abstract:Surfactants are used to control the macroscopic properties of air‐water interfaces. However, the link between the molecular structure of surfactant adsorption and macroscopic properties is poorly understood. Using sum‐frequency generation spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulation, we show that two ionic surfactants (dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide and sodium dodecyl sulphate) with the same carbon chain lengths and head group charge magnitude (but different signs) can interact and reorient interfacial wa… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
