Effects of calcium and magnesium-balanced deep sea water on antioxidation in kidney cells

Abstract: In this study, the antioxidant effects of mineralcontaining deep sea water (DSW) on kidney function was confirmed using a cell model. DSW samples were prepared with different mineral concentrations including calcium and magnesiumthe main minerals found in DSW-to derive the following sample groups: trace minerals (TM), high magnesium (HM), high magnesium, low salt (HMLS) and high magnesium, high calcium (HMHC). The purpose of this preparation was to determine the optimal calcium/magnesium ratio in DSW. Human em… Show more

“…Megalin and clathrin are key players in apical endocytosis in PT and reduction of these proteins is related to a reduction in albumin endocytosis 94,95 . Megalin is downregulated with HS diets even in salt insensitive Wistar or SD rats and in the absence of increased urinary albumin excretion 96,97 . However, as discussed earlier, the fact that the expression of transporter genes in the renal cortical proximal tubules appear to be decreased while the expression of genes distal to the TAL is increased suggests that proteolysis may be shifted to the distal tubules.…”
