Effects of biochar and organic-inorganic fertilizer on pomelo orchard soil properties, enzymes activities, and microbial community structure

Abstract: Fertilizer management can influence soil microbes, soil properties, enzymatic activities, abundance and community structure. However, information on the effects of biochar in combination with organic-inorganic fertilizer after 3 years under pomelo orchard on soil bacterial abundance, soil properties and enzyme activities are not clear. Therefore, we conducted a field experiment with seven treatments, i.e., (1) Ck (control), (2) T1 (2 kg biochar plant–1), (3) T2 (4 kg biochar plant–1), (4) T3 (2 kg organic-inor… Show more

“…The analysis revealed that the abundance of N/P-associated genes was closely correlated with bacterial network clusters in module #8 and module #15, as well as the changes in TN and TP content in different parts of the pepper plants. Interestingly, certain microbial genera, such as Jatrophihabitans , Conexibacter (Wu et al ., 2022), Rhodanobacter (Wang et al ., 2022; Wu et al ., 2022), f_ 67-14 , Acidibacter (Song et al ., 2022), f_ Microscillaceae , and f_ Chitinophagaceae , were found to be enriched in specific pepper varieties and likely play significant roles in N/P cycling. On the other hand, high-abundance genera in YZ and BE cultivars, including Arthrobacter , Nitrosospira , Frankiales , Bacillus , Lysobacter , Sorangium , Conexibacter , and Leifsonia , have been reported to be involved in nitrification or nitrogen fixation processes (Hu et al ., 2021; Sellstedt and Richau, 2013; Wen et al ., 2022; Yu et al ., 2022).…”

“…The abundance of Actinobacteria and Firmicutes was positively correlated with soil SOM values, which is consistent with experimental results on the effect of bioorganic fertilizer on banana yield and quality ( Li Z. et al, 2021 ). Additionally, Song Y. et al (2022) reported the close relationship between Acidobacteria and Proteobacteria with crucial soil nutrients like available potassium (AK), available phosphorus (AP), and ammonium nitrogen (AN).…”
