Gangue is the main backfilling material in solid backfilling mining, and its compaction characteristics determine the overburden control effect and surface subsidence. Under the action of compaction force and overburden pressure, the gangue will be broken, rotated and occluded, resulting in different compaction characteristics of gangue in the field and laboratory. To this end, a laboratory gangue compaction test system was established to test the compaction characteristics of gangue in the laboratory, such as stress-strain, stress bulk density and stress deformation modulus. Based on actual geological conditions of backfilling mining in the Tangshan coal mine, the characteristics of stress deformation modulus of gangue under different inclination angles and mining heights were tested on-site. Through the Beidou satellite CORS system, the surface subsidence of working face F5001was monitored. The research results show that the stress deformation modulus of gangue measured in the field is slightly less than that measured in the laboratory, and it is maintained at about 27 MPa under the overburden pressure in the on-site measurement. Backfilling technology with an initial compaction force of 2.5MPa can be used to effectively control the surface subsidence, and the maximum subsidence value is only 61 mm.

Liquid storage tanks are included in the group of industrial (non-building) structures, which are made of different types of steel and concrete and in different shapes, including cylindrical, cubic, conical, and spherical, on the ground and in the air, and with different uses, including liquid fuel storage tanks in Factories, oil and gas facilities, and the like, up to drinking water and firefighting tanks are divided into industrial towns and urban residential areas. Special structures such as water tanks are of such importance that they must have high safety not only in normal and operating conditions but also in critical conditions such as earthquakes. As a result, the design of these structures against seismic loads and their proper performance during an earthquake is very important. This study aimed to investigate and evaluate the seismic behavior of concrete tanks with fluid (water) in different states. For this purpose, 5 concrete tanks with different dimensions were investigated and parameters such as displacement, shear stress, soil settlement and displacement in a specific path were analyzed. By checking the displacement of these tanks, it was found that this parameter is the most optimal for tank number 4.

Several reinforced concrete minarets in Turkey have suffered significant damage during earthquakes, resulting in fatalities and economic losses. These structures might be considered the most frequently built thin structures in Turkey. To improve seismic resistivity, it is necessary to figure out the exact nature of these tall structures. In this way, the existing ones can be strengthened. This study examined the most widely built (traditional) forms of reinforced concrete minarets under two earthquakes, the Mw 7.2 Van on 23 October 2011 and the Mw 7.4 İzmit on 17 August 1999, by considering three types of soils, i.e., stiff, medium and soft, with the viscous boundary method proposed from Burman et al. Moreover, diameter of the soil was selected as ten times the diameter of the foundation of the minarets. After conducting numerous analyses, it was concluded that the RC minarets’ structural behavior was altered by the softening of the earth, leading to a sharp increase in internal forces. Furthermore, it was discovered that the regions of stress accumulation indicated for the representative minarets matched the damage shown in recent earthquakes.
