Effects of Apatite Cement Containing Atelocollagen on Attachment to and Proliferation and Differentiation of MC3T3-E1 Osteoblastic Cells

Abstract: To improve the osteoconductivity of apatite cement (AC) for reconstruction of bone defects after oral maxillofacial surgery, we previously fabricated AC containing atelocollagen (AC(ate)). In the present study, we examined the initial attachment, proliferation and differentiation of mouse osteoblastic cells (MC3T3-E1 cells) on the surface of conventional AC (c-AC), AC(ate) and a plastic cell dish. The number of osteoblastic cells showing initial attachment to AC(ate) was greater than those attached to c-AC and… Show more

“…MC3T3 cells are mouse osteoblasts, widely used as model systems on the biology of osteoblasts in oral surgery and medicine ( Takechi et al, 2016 ; Deana et al, 2018 ). Gaseous pollutants often penetrate into human organs first through respiratory system.…”

“…Secondly, atelocollagen stimulates and accelerates the formation of new bone tissue by triggering platelet aggregation, degradation and release of growth peptides responsible for osteoinduction. Furthermore, it was already emphasized that alkaline phosphatase is more active after 12 days in the presence of atelocollagen, which makes it more useful for oral and maxillofacial bone reconstruction [31]. Also, atelocollagen in contact with fibrin shows a much higher resistance, and inflammatory cell accumulation in the presence of atelocollagen is significantly lower [32].…”
