“…The IPC method has an important advantage over the above‐mentioned ones in that it results in a better compositional homogeneity, but a strong disadvantage is the effective removal of large amounts of organic material. The PCS method is a simpler organic polymer gel, one that differs from the IPC technique in that it utilizes water as a solvent instead of organic solvents 17,18 . By means of these procedures, apparent density values >99% D th have been reported for pure CeO 2 and Ln‐doped ceria at relatively low temperatures such as 1250°–1350°C.…”

“…In the case of pure Ce 0.8 Sm 0.2 O 1.9 ceramics, a relative density of 97% was usually attained at a sintering temperature of above 1550 • C [10], whereas for 0.5 mol% Sr 2 Ga 2 O 5 -added specimen 97% of theoretical density was achieved at 1250 • C. This result suggests that the addition of Sr 2 Ga 2 O 5 can reduce the sintering temperature by about 300 • C. The sintering temperatures of Sr 2 Ga 2 O 5 -added specimens were also compared with those obtained with the addition of Al 2 O 3 , and it was found that a higher sintering temperature of 1400 • C was required to obtain a relative density of 98% for the specimen containing 1 mol% Al 2 O 3 [14]. This confirms that the addition of Sr 2 Ga 2 O 5 is more effective than the addition of Al 2 O 3 .…”

“…: +82 51 620 4763; fax: +82 51 622 8452. the investigators have studied for the preparation of ultra fine ceria-based ceramic powders by chemical routes such as coprecipitation and sol-gel process. Recently, it has been reported that Ga 2 O 3 [10][11][12], Al 2 O 3 [13,14], MnO 2 [15], Fe 2 O 3 [16], Co 3 O 4 [17], and CoO [18] are effective sintering aids for the densification of ceria-based ceramics. For Sr 2 Ga 2 O 5 additive, only report available is on Gd 2 O 3 -doped CeO 2 system.…”
