Effects of Aloe Vera and Chitosan Nanoparticle Thin-Film Membranes on Wound Healing in Full Thickness Infected Wounds with Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus

Abstract: Objective: To assess effect of Aleo vera with chitosan nanoparticle biofilm on wound healing in full thickness infected wounds with antibiotic resistant gram positive bacteria. Method: Thirty rats were randomized into five groups of six rats each. Group I: Animals with uninfected wounds treated with 0.9% saline solution. Group II: Animals with infected wounds treated with saline. Group III: Animals with infected wounds were dressed with chitosan nanoparticle thin-film membranes. Group IV: Animals with infected… Show more

“…The group treated with aloe-alginate film presented a decrease of inflammatory infiltrated on 14th (p=0.05) and 21st (p=0.028) days when compared to control group. This result can be attributed to the compounds presented in aloe gel polysaccharides and amino acids that can promote cells mitosis thereby accelerating healing and stimulating macrophages to excrete dead tissue 23 .…”

“…Ranjbar and Yousefi prepared chitosan nanoparticle thin-film membranes enriched with AV gel for wound healing applications. The in vivo studies using the rat model demonstrated that the MRSA-infected full-thickness wounds healed significantly faster when treated with AV-loaded membranes than those dressed with saline [ 96 ]. Singh and co-workers prepared dextran-based bionanocomposite membranes encapsulated with AV extract and Manuka honey for wound treatment.…”

“… Histological studies demonstrated that these membranes are not harmful to skin cells. [ 96 ] Dextran Almost 100% bactericidal efficacy against both E. coli and S. aureus, with fast wound healing. Good biocompatibility, showing safety to be used in wound treatment.…”

“…The anti-oxidative activity reduces hydroperoxides, catalase, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione peroxidase [ 3 ]. The viscosity of A. vera gel may be due to its content of the sugar glucomannan, in addition to approximately 200 active components that were detected in A. vera gel among proteins and its monomers, lipids, vitamins, and polysaccharides [ 4 ]. The extracted gel of A. vera leaves exhibited a fungistatic activity against Candida paraprilosis, Candida krusei , and C. albicans [ 5 , 6 ].…”

“…As a result of the incorporation of A. vera gel with CSNPs, the gel has gained several pharmacological properties that are of great interest to pharmaceutical fabrications [ 1 ]. The combination of CSNPs with A. vera extract exhibited an enhancement in wound healing caused by microbial pathogens [ 4 ]. Electrostatic attraction among cationic amino groups of chitosan with negative charges on the microbial cell wall is the main reason of microbial cell destruction.…”
