Abstract: INTRODUCTIONAging is associated with an accumulation of damaged aberrant macromolecules. Autophagy is the process that contributes to the maintenance of cellular homeostasis through degradation and subsequent recycling of damaged proteins and organelles and may be coordinated by the heat shock response.
