“…While 3 months of combined aerobic and resistance exercise diminished FGF21 serum levels [116], 2 months endurance training had no effect on FGF21 serum levels or FGF21 mRNA expression in skeletal muscle [117]. Most interestingly, 2 weeks of daily endurance training and an acute bout of endurance exercise enhanced circulating FGF21 levels and this was accompanied by increased serum levels of NEFA [118,119].…”

“…In studies on human have shown that lipolysis inhibition in adipocytes takes place by FGF21 (Arner et al, 2008), while other findings have indicated that high level of serum FGF21 associated with abdominal adiposity, insulin resistance, high level of triglyceride and type 2 diabetes (Jian et al, 2012;Chavez et al, 2009;Dushay et al, 2010;Galman et al, 2008;Li et al, 2012;Zhang et al, 2008). It is reported that FGF21 are associated with metabolic syndrome patients , type 2 diabetes (Li et al, 2010), impaired glucose tolerance (Chavez et al, 2009), nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (Dushay et al, 2010;Li et al, 2011;Yilmaz et al, 2010;An et al, 2012) and carotid artery disease (Yang et al, 2011; Expert Panel on Detection, Evaluation and Treatment of High Blood Cholesterol in Adults, 2001). Effect of FGF21 in human on metabolic syndrome patients is not exactly clear.…”

“…Next, we performed a prospective study to examine the effect of a 3-month combined exercise program on circulating glypican-4 levels in 64 obese women. Details of the inclusion criteria for this prospective study and of the combined exercise program were provided in our previous report (8). All participants provided their written informed consent and the Korea University Institutional Review Board, in accordance with the Declaration of Helsinki of the World Medical Association, approved the study protocol.…”
