Effects of a Purified Micronized Flavonoid Fraction on Capillary Filtration in Diabetic Patients

Abstract: The objective of the present study was to investigate the effects of a purified micronized flavonoid fraction (Daflon 500 mg) on the increased capillary filtration of albumin (CFA) which is an early change in the microcirculation of patients with diabetes. A placebo controlled trial lasting 30 to 42 days including two equal groups of 20 patients, following a 15‐day initial placebo run‐in phase. The CFA test employed consisted of injecting albumin labelled with technetium (99mTc) intravenously, applying a venou… Show more

“…It is known that hesperidin improves the vascular integrity, decreases capillary permeability and is given as a supplement to patients with blood vessel fragility (Valensi et al, 1996). Hesperidin also shows anti-inflammatory and immunomodulatory effects (Yeh et al, 2007).…”

“…Reproducibility was also veri®ed with a 1 month interval in diabetic patients. 21 We also con®rmed the reproducibility by carrying out the same procedure 1 h after labelled-albumin injection and inducing a second venous compression for 12 min (unpublished data). 22 …”

“…In the 16 controls investigated in the present study, LFaHF was 0.08AE 0.21%. 21 A value !1% was thus considered to be abnormal. This ratio is an index of lymphatic uptake of interstitial albumin and is not believed to re¯ect a phenomenon which occurs in blood circulation.…”

“…Also, its anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic activity has been demonstrated in neuronal cells [99]. Diosmin was found to be capable of normalizing capillary filtration rate and prevent ischemia in diabetics [100][101]. Diosmin has been shown to improve factors associated with diabetic complications.…”
