Objetivo: Avaliar, por meio de uma revisão sistemática, os efeitos da hidroterapia sobre o equilíbrio de idosos e suas implicações sobre os riscos de queda.Metodologia: O presente estudo foi executado por meio de uma revisão sistemática, sendo adotadas as recomendações do PreferredReportingItems for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Foi efetuado buscas nos seguintes bancos de dados: Cochrane, MEDLINE, PUBMED e PEDro. Resultados:No processo de identificação, foram encontrados 105 artigos científicos. Desses, 43 foram excluídos por estavam duplicados nas bases de dados, restando 62 artigos para etapa de seleção, na qual,53 foram excluídos por não estarem adequados aos critérios determinados. Dos 9 artigos selecionados para análise todos foram considerados aptos e foram inclusos na análise.A maioria dos artigos verificaram efeitos positivos do emprego da hidroterapia sobre o equilíbrio em idosos. Uma vez, que as terapias realizadas em ambiente aquático ocasionam a melhora da força e resistência dos músculos das extremidades, além de promover á um aperfeiçoamento da coordenação motora dos indivíduos. Conclusão: Afisioterapia aquática é eficaz no desenvolvimento resistência, força e, consequentemente, no aumento do equilíbrio de pacientes idosos.
