Effects of a Chipboard Structure on Its Physical and Mechanical Properties

Abstract: The paper evaluated the possibility of manufacturing wood-based boards from the material left over from sawmill processing of wood. The boards were made from chips created during cant preparation for cutting and sawdust generated during further sawnwood preparation. They were made as one- and three-ply boards with face layers containing industrial microchips. Mechanical properties determined for one-ply boards in a bend test were used as guidelines for manufacturing three-ply boards. The outcomes were much bet… Show more

“…The course of foaming of the modified PUR foams was characterized on the basis of the times of the successive stages of this process and the maximum foaming temperature. This paper is a continuation of the previous research conducted by the authors concerning the possibility of using by-products from wood processing in order to manufacture materials with improved properties, which are used, e.g., in construction and in the production of interior design elements [30][31][32].…”

“…Its popularity is mainly due to the fact that in this method of cutting relatively simple and cheap tools are used, usually saws and disc cutters with small dimensions. In the furniture industry, sliding table saws (panel saws) are commonly used for cutting of medium density fiberboards (MDF) [1], high density fiberboards (HDF), laminate veneer lumber (LVL) [1], plywood [2] and chipboards of different structures [3].…”

“…The quality of technological lines, excluding those requiring chips of specific type, e.g., OSB (oriented strand board) [ 1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 ], enables processing of practically any type of wood into particleboards. Wood generated as waste from sawmill production processes [ 7 , 8 , 9 ], from forest fires [ 10 ], post-consumer or recycled wood, or fine and undersize chips [ 11 , 12 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 , 18 ] are easily used in these processes. This ease of the use of wood material even of low quality does not hinder a search for alternate materials for production of furniture or construction boards.…”
