Effects of 200 Gy 60Co-γ Radiation on the Regulation of Antioxidant Enzymes, Hsp70 Genes, and Serum Molecules of Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus)

Abstract: The diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella (Linnaeus), is one of the notorious pests causing substantial loses to many cruciferous vegetables across the nations. The effects of 60Co-γ radiation on physiology of P. xylostella were investigated and the results displayed that 200 Gy irradiation significantly alters the antioxidant enzyme regulation in six-day-old male pupae of P. xylostella. First, in our research, we detected Oxidase system and stress response mechanism of irradiated pupae, the results displayed … Show more

“…The data obtained using various models including cells, animals, and recently humans suggest that radioprotective agents working through a variety of mechanisms have the potential to decrease free radical damage produced by IR [ 15 ]. Therefore, recently, much interest has been ignited to discover antioxidants which would counteract or minimize radiation-induced testicular toxicity [ 16 , 17 , 18 , 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 ].…”

“…36 In the present study, the protease, lipase, and acid phosphatase enzymes produced by the G. mellonella larvae reached the maximal level at 6 Gy. 37 Wenlong et al. reported that 200 Gy irradiation disrupted the enzyme levels of P. xylostella , leading to body damage, while long-wave ultraviolet light was reported to increase oxidative enzymes in Dendrolimus tabulaeformis .…”

“…GST as a detoxifying enzyme effectively metabolizes the exogenous toxic compounds and plays a crucial role in providing defense as well as maintaining the normal physiological activities in the body [52][53][54]. The enzyme catalyzes the harmful compounds with glutathione and assists their discharge from the body in a non-enzymatic fashion [55].…”
