Effectiveness of urea nanofertilizer based aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS)-zeolite as slow release fertilizer system

Abstract: In this study, nanofertilizer effectiveness of urea/APTMS-modified zeolite as a slow release fertilizer nitrogen from urea was evaluated. The natural zeolite is activated by 1% of HF with a temperature of 120°C and a zeolite surface has been modified with aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (APTMS) 5%. Zeolite was activated with APTMS-modified zeolite characterized by X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD), surface area analyzer (SAA) and UV-Vis spectroscopy. Modification of activated zeolite with APTMS result in decrea… Show more

“…Amino-propyl-trimethoxy-silane (APTMS) surface modified zeolite has been used as a carrier to design nanofertilizer for urea delivery. 45 Another unique nanocomposite system has been designed using nanozeolite as a carrier for macronutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg, and S) and micronutrients (Fe, Zn, and Cu). 46 Nanozeolite is synthesized by a simple coprecipitation method, followed by impregnation 47,48 The first nanocomposite was designed solely as a nitrogen delivery system.…”

“…34 The modification of NM surfaces by APTMS provides potential for several applications such as environmental remediation and biomedicine, among others, 34 increasing NM reactivity with other chemical structures, thus generating multifunctional NMs. 35 APTMS is widely used in drug delivery studies [36][37][38] due to its good slow drug release results, optimizing compound absorption and reducing its toxicity due to its controlled release.…”

“…Furthermore, the literature reports urea having a strong concentrationdependent absorbance. 14 Although pure urea does not have its maximum absorbance within the UV-vis range, the literature also reports its detection using wavelengths adjacent to the wavelength of maximum absorbance like, for example, 190 nm, 15,16 200 nm, 17 210 nm, 18 and 217 nm. 19 However, working at regions adjacent to the wavelength of maximum absorbance might compromise the sensitivity of the analysis, especially at low concentrations.…”
