Breast cancer is the global health problem. It is the highest prevalent site-specific cancer in women throughout the world and the most common reason of death in middle age women, following lung cancer. Up to 5% of breast cancers are caused by inheritance. Male breast cancer accounts for less than 1%. Mammography is the first imaging study to evaluate breast abnormalities, Ultrasound is particularly useful in young women with dense breasts. Core needle biopsy permits the analysis of breast tissue architecture and whether invasive cancer is present. To compare core needle biopsy and imaging, the accuracy of each modality for purpose of the diagnosis and their impact on preoperative planning before surgical treatment. A retrospective cohort study was performed in 70 cases of breast cancer during 2015-2017 at Slemani Breast Center/ Kurdistan region. Inclusion criteria any patient with diagnosed with breast cancer for whom core biopsy and imaging techniques (ultrasound and mammography) were done, Age 25 years and above. Exclusion criteria, a patient with breast mass who did not underwent: one of the two modalities, Age below 25 years, pregnant women. In the current study: mean age/year for the participants were Mean age = 51.34 year ± 12.85 SD), Sixty-nine cases were female and one male. By core biopsy (97.1%) is positive for malignancy. In this study: results about 34.28% of BIRADS V (ultrasound)lesions proved to be positive for malignancy by core biopsy, 1.43% of BIRADS V were negative for malignancy and the association was statistically highly significant, for BIRADS III lesions 17.14% were proved as positive for malignancy by core biopsy. About 45.7% of BIRADS V (mammography were positive for malignancy by core biopsy and the associations were found to be statistically highly significant and for BIRADS III 12.85% of lesions were positive for malignancy by core biopsy. There was a statistically significant association between radiological investigation(ultrasound, mammography) and histopathological finding (core biopsy).

Background: Breast lumps are one of the common problems encountered in women. These lumps are frequently seen in younger to middle aged women and often they go undetected for various reasons. These lumps have different etiologic causes and can be either benign or malignant.Objective: To evaluate prediction of pathological type of different breast lesions, and the sensitivity and specificity of BI-RADS Scoring system using a modified triple test. Patients and methods:This prospective observational study included fifty patients complaining of palpable breast masses came to Department of Surgery Al-Azhar University Hospitals (Al-Hussein and Bab Al-Sha'reia University Hospitals), Each patient underwent a modified triple test which included a complete clinical examination, next was the mammography and ultrasound examination of the breast mass, and finally fine needle aspiration of the breast lump was made. Based on each test, the palpable breast lumps were classified as benign, malignant or inconclusive. Then investigate, how accurately using the BI-RADS assessment categories for diagnosing breast cancer, Data of the study were collected during the period from July 2018 to June 2019 for analysis by statistical program SPSS, then Microsoft Excel sheets were used to graph the results and integrated into Microsoft Word.Results: Clinical examination had sensitivity of 86.34 % and specificity of 91% for the detection of malignancy. Positive predictive value of clinical examination was 85%, and negative predictive value was 84.42%. Ultrasound findings suggestive of malignancy had biopsy proven malignancy. Ultrasound had a sensitivity of 86.84% and specificity of 100% for the detection of malignancy, Positive predictive value for detection of malignancy was 100%, Negative predictive value to rule out malignancy was 92.86%.By Using modified triple test, 18 patients (36%) had features suggestive of malignant disease, and 32 patients (64%) were suspected to have benign breast disease. All of the 18 patients suspected to have malignancy on Modified Triple Test were biopsy proven to have malignant breast disease. Conclusion:Modified Triple Test had a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of 97.36%, 100%, 100% and 98.48% .respectively. Benign cases can be safely followed up without furtherprocedure (open biopsy) that avoiding the surgical morbidity and scar, and also those found to be malignant on Modified Triple Test can directly proceed to definitive surgical management.

Background: A palpable lump in a woman’s breast could be benign or malignant and it requires prompt evaluation to confirm or exclude cancer. This study aims to establish the correlation between clinical and radiological parameters for provisional diagnosis of breast lumps and the role of histopathology for final diagnosis of these breast lumps.Methods: Total 275 female patients with palpable breast lumps were included in the study, where a detailed history was recorded and clinical examination was done. All patients underwent ultrasonography of the breast along with fine needle aspiration cytology or histopathology, wherever indicated.Results: Benign breast lumps were found more commonly in 18-30 years of age group whereas malignant breast lumps were seen more commonly in the 41-60 years age group and the incidence increased with age. Fixity to skin was present in 5.1% and fixity to chest wall was present in 5.8% respectively, and all of these cases turned out to be malignant.Conclusions: Attributing factors for suspicion of malignant lumps are advanced age, fixity to surrounding structures, presence of ulceration and peau’d orange breast skin appearance. Although for confirmation of malignancy from a suspected breast lump requires either cytology or histopathology of the excised specimen.
