Effectiveness of the e-NurSus Children Intervention in the Training of Nursing Students

Abstract: The paediatric population is the most vulnerable to exposure to environmental risk factors. Institutions of higher education have to equip nursing students with the attitudes, knowledge, and skills to respond to this using blended learning. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of e-NurSus Children intervention on student nurses’ attitudes, knowledge, and skills. A quasi-experimental study of time series was designed using pre and post educational intervention evaluation in 2018. The participants we… Show more

“…This type of pedagogic design includes the use of hypermedia resources that strengthen teacher feedback in real time, which furthers the development of SRL strategies [24,35]. This aspect is of special relevance for teachers in nursing higher education, and the implicit message is that they would be well advised to design their materials for use in a blended learning environment [27][28][29][30], as those environments appear to have increased the effectiveness of active methodologies, especially PBL with hypermedia resources in LMS [38]. In addition, Blended Learning type 1 (80% the interaction in the LMS) strengthens students' use of learning-based projects that have been considered more effective in the LMS [2,23].…”

“…It is fundamental that universities strive towards curricula that fully endorse environmental health as a key theme, particularly in the health arena. One previous study (Álvarez-García et al, 2019) undertaken in the UK and Spain found that the attitudes of nursing students towards children's environmental health were generally favourable and this can provide a foundation for the future development of appropriate curricula (Junyent and Geli de Ciurana, 2008) addressing these issues together with the continuing use of the e-NurSus Children intervention (Álvarez-García et al, 2019).…”

“…ChEHK‐Q and ChEHS‐Q were developed by Álvarez‐García et al. (2018), and both of them were verified with good psychometric characteristics and have been widely used in Europe (Alvarez‐Garcia et al., 2020; Álvarez‐García, Álvarez‐Nieto, Kelsey, et al., 2019; Álvarez‐García, Álvarez‐Nieto, Sanz‐Martos, et al., 2019).…”
