Background: Nutrition is considered an important part of treatment in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Therefore, poor nutrition leads to decreased life quality and increased complications of hemodialysis as well as mortality in these patients. This study aimed at investigating the effect of nutrition education program (NEP) on biochemical parameters among patients undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This quasi-experimental study was conducted on 30 patients who referred to hemodialysis unit at Ayatollah Taleghani hospital in Urmia province, Iran. The sampling method was purposive. Data were collected through interviews and data collection instruments consisted of demographic questionnaires and checklist. In the pre-education stage, the demographic questionnaire was completed and a 2-month average of biochemical parameters (sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphor, blood urea nitrogen, and creatinine) were measured and recorded in the checklist by the researcher. Then, the patients received four 30-minute educational sessions on nutrition using learning assistant tools. Two months after the education program, the laboratory results were measured and recorded again by the researcher. Data analysis was performed using SPSS 14 and paired t test, and significance level was set at 0.05 (P < 0.5). Results:The findings revealed a significant decrease in sodium, potassium, calcium, blood urea nitrogen (P < 0.05), but no significant difference was found in the laboratory results of phosphor and creatinine (P < 0.05). Conclusions: The implementation of nutrition education program (NEP) for patients under hemodialysis can improve biochemical parameters as well as complications resulting from their imbalance. Therefore, this program is recommended for this group of patients.

Introduction: Infertility is a medical problem which influences all the dimensions of one's individual and social life and can expose him/her to psycho-physical, socio-economic, sexual and family challenges. This study was designed to compare the quality of life of fertile and infertile women. Materials & Methodology:This is a case-control analytical study in which 180 fertile and infertile women (aged 18-42) participated. The infertile group consisted of women who had visited an infertility treatment clinic. The fertile group consisted of healthy women who had children and had visited a healthcare center in the city of Jahrom. For the case group (n=90), sampling was conducted based on the census method; for the control group (n=90), subjects were selected through stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire which had two sections: demographic information and the World Health Organization quality of life questionnaire (WHO QOL-BREF). The collected data were analyzed using SPSS version 16. Results:The mean age of the participants was 28.26±4.85 years. 76.5% of the infertility cases were due to female infertility and 5.9% were due to male infertility. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the infertile and fertile groups in their overall satisfaction with life levels (p=0.002). There were no significant differences between the two groups in mean scores of somatic, psychological, social and environmental dimensions (p>0.05). Conclusion:Considering the results of the present research, it seems that factors like acceptance of infertility by couples, hope for present medical solutions to be effective, use of support plans and recent advancements in technology are possible reasons for the absence of difference between the infertile and fertile groups in quality of life.

In recent years, a lot of efforts have been made toward developing new methods for treating drug addicts. The present study aims to compare the effectiveness of the drug addiction treatment methods used for the addicts at the drug addiction treatment center of Jahrom, Iran in 2014. The present study is a retrospective cohort study whose population consisted of all the individuals who were undergoing treatment at the medical center of MMT in Jahrom. Sampling of the files of the entire patients (150) was based on the census method. The researchers studied each treatment group separately. The data collected from the patients' files were included their personal and medical information and level of improvement. The results of the patients' treatment plans (MMT, BMT, and opium tincture) were collected, compared and analyzed. For the statistical analysis of the data, the researchers used descriptive indexes (frequency and percentage), the chi-square test, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and SPSS v. 24. Based on the collected data, the effectiveness of the treatments was as follows: weak (30%) in 6.0% of the BMT cases and 12.0% of MMT cases; moderate (50%) in 72.0% of the BMT cases and 27.8% of MMT cases; and satisfactory (60%) and above in 22.0% of the BMT cases and 60.3% of MMT cases, all of which values were statistically significant. The results of the study show that using methadone is a more effective method for treating drug abuse compared to other treatments.
