Effectiveness of functional training on cardiorespiratory parameters: a systematic review and meta‐analysis of randomized controlled trials

Abstract: According to the GRADE system, there is very low quality evidence that functional training is better than other interventions to improve cardiovascular parameters. This result encourages new searches about the theme.

“…The linear indexes in the time domain, obtained by the statistical analysis used, were: root mean square of the successive differences (RMSSD) – the square root of the square average of the differences between adjacent normal RR intervals in a time interval, expressed in ms; and the standard deviation of NN intervals (SDNN) – the average standard deviation of all normal RR intervals, expressed in ms . Through spectral analysis, using the fast Fourier transform, the following indexes were obtained: low‐frequency component ranging from 0.04 to 0.15Hz (LF) and high‐frequency component ranging from 0.15 to 0.4 Hz (HF) in ms 2 (square milliseconds) and nu (normalized units) …”

“…Studies with different types of training (aerobics, functional and instability resistance) carried out with women in menopause has seen improvement in HRV, especially with increased vagal modulation, but to our knowledge, none of these studies evaluated cardiovascular parameters and the autonomic nervous system through HRV in menopausal women undergoing functional training …”

“…Previous studies that have attempted to synthesise the literature demonstrate a lack of an operational term that broadly captures all combinations of aerobic and resistance training, e.g. HIFT, bodyweight HIIT and circuit HIIT [ 48 51 ]. These disparate styles of HIMT and unstandardised methods of reporting interventions make comparisons to other concurrent training modes difficult.…”

“…Our review is timely since there is an increasing amount of research dedicated to the rehabilitation exercises on respiratory system diseases. Some previous meta-analysis reported that rehabilitation exercises have played a positive role in treating respiratory system diseases, [ 25 28 ] and it can improve cardiorespiratory endurance [ 29 ] . Some trails revealed that rehabilitation exercises can help with pulmonary rehabilitation [ 30 ] and COVID-19 is one of the respiratory infectious diseases.…”
